"Teknoskepticism Soundingboard: Observation of A Speculative Process" is a project that captures and documents the 2023 DISCO Network Book Jam process. During the retreat, members of the DISCO Network came together to engage in a book sprint. This project , created by the group's artist, serves as a visual representation of the discussions, writings, and creative exploration.
The project memorializes the book sprint process by remixing visual elements that emerged during the retreat. Some of these visuals were recorded on-site, while others were generated from snippets of conversations held within the group. The main objective is to visually depict the nature of the discourse that took place during the ideation and writing stages of the book sprint. The project is manifested in an online XR environment, featuring cabins that resemble those that the participants stayed during the retreat at the Highlights Foundation in the Poconos, Pennsylvania.
In this XR experience, visual documentation created by the group is recontextualized, and various topics are explored, including surveillance, afro-speculation, crip-care (or the lack thereof), and the possibilities and limitations of generative AI. Each cabin in the virtual space represents a unique visual or auditory interpretation of the ideas discussed and experienced during the book sprint.
